Welcome to the 2nd issue of 24Pearl: The
Magazine. To navigate through the magazine simply click on a
contributor’s name from the list (“Summer”) on the right hand side of the page.
The poets included in this 2nd issue of 24Pearl received this call for submission:
Taking inspiration from Charles Olson’s 1950 essay Projective
Verse, 24Pearl: The Magazine is seeking submissions for its summer issue
that have been composed “by field.”
We want “open verse” that has been composed according to breath, and
engages the full width of the page.
As Olson writes, “the poem itself must, at all points, be a high-energy
construct, and at all points, an energy-discharge.”
Each poet selected for this issue addresses the open field
of the page in their work. Opening
windows—their engagement with visual and sonic space has generated poems that
call for multiple readings and offer multiple ways of looking at each
individual composition. While some
poems in this issue may appear visually fragmented, each poet instead has drawn
a sophisticated relationship between eye and ear. A relationship that is based in visual and sonic rhythms,
and breath, with each poem, indeed, resulting in “a high-energy construct, and
at all points, and energy-discharge.”
I would like to thank everyone who submitted work for this
second issue. Thank you for
reading and for your continued support of 24PearlStreet, the Fine Arts Work
Center Online.
Sincerely,
Lewis Feuer
